The Kingdom of Tonga, located in Oceania, is an archipelago with 171 islands. Tonga is a member of the World Trade Organization. The economy of Tonga is largely based on agriculture. The chief crops of the country include squash, coconuts, bananas and vanilla beans. Other agricultural products are copra, cocoa, coffee, ginger and black pepper. The country is putting in efforts to discover ways to diversify its economy. Tourism is a developing industry as it can contribute significantly towards the improvement of the economy of Tonga. Fishing industry is also a growing sector and tuna, beche de mer and seaweed are the main export products. |
